How to Build a Concrete Footpath?
A well-made walkway or garden path not only adds charm to the landscape, it also complements a home’s exterior features and serves as a great do-it-yourself project. Traditional walkway materials like brick and stone are prized for their beauty and durability, but they can be pricey and difficult to install.
Building a new concrete footpath is a simple and inexpensive project that combines the custom look of brick or stone with all the durability and economy of poured concrete. It’s also a great way to build a professional-looking walkway in a variety of sizes and styles that fits your budget and skill level.
Make a crowned slope: If your yard is uneven, consider crowning the surface so the walkway slopes down to both sides. To do this, cut a 2 x 4 into two pieces that are long enough to rest on either side of the concrete form. Fasten the boards together with 4" wood or deck screws driven at the center and ends.
Stamp a pattern or stain the concrete: If your yard has a lot of lush greenery, you may want to imprint your new concrete path with a pattern that will help give it a natural appearance. You can also stain or paint your new concrete pathway in a number of different colors to make it more interesting and unique.
A well-made concrete pathway can be a beautiful addition to any yard, but it is important to clean it regularly so that dirt and grime won’t accumulate on it. Dirty concrete pathways can become a trip hazard for pedestrians, especially when tree roots start lifting the concrete or tile along the edges.
